Skookum is a brewery that is proud to be local. Supporting all local businesses and American made products, this place is rocking the brewery industry. Their beer quality is great too, with decent selection that is an epitome of consistency, year round and every year. They have a variety of beers, over a ranges of 4% to 8% . If you’re lucky you can catch one of Skookum’s infusions too. Seasonals are also available on tap (appropriate to the season) all the time. Additionally, they have a few wines and a cider on tap for the non-beer drinkers. Even if you don’t like alcohol you can have their tap root beer, which is great.
The facility of Skookum Brewery itself is pretty cool – a big warehouse by the Arlington airport with tons of characterful mismatched seating, brewing equipment and barroom décor; plus, the staff is super friendly and entertaining. The taproom is large and spacious, with plenty of room between tables, so that you’re not sharing conversations with others. Plus, the brew system being along the back wall adds a certain industrial feel to the woodsy, NW decor. A very nice tap list features some regulars, and some rotating specialties.
At Skookum the beer is both open and closed fermented. The ingredients are primarily sourced from Washington State, with over 90% of grain grown and malted in the home state itself. Here are some of their most amazing beers that you can try-
- Brown & Hairy: Falling somewhere between a brown and a porter, this ale, brewed with a handful of specialty malts, has notes of toasted bread, chocolate, raisins and a mild nuttiness useful source.
- Jackass IPA: A pungent, light bodied, west coast style IPA. Constantly playing with hop combinations here, so never quite the same beer. Expect flavors and aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, pine and honey.
- Breakfast of Crows: Imperial oatmeal stout brewed with maple syrup and conditioned on vanilla beans, bourbon oak cubes and espresso. Big flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and maple with a smooth oaky finish
If you want quality beer in a quality atmosphere then Skookum Brewery is your place. Everything is amazing here- service, staff, quality, etc. However, Skookum is cash-only, so be prepared for that, but a visit is well worth it!
